Joseph is an Information Security Analyst on the Red Team at USAA's Cyber Threat Operations Center. Prior to joining the Red Team, Joseph was a member of USAA's Cyber Incident Response Team, where he was responsible for proactively hunting advanced threats across USAA's digital infrastructure, detections engineering, hunt capability development, and responding to cyber events and incidents. Joseph has been at USAA since January of 2020.
In 2019 Joseph graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with concentrations in Data Science and Information Security. Joseph is currently enrolled in UTSA's Master of Science in Computer Science program with an expected graduation date of December 2021.
In the Summer of 2018, Joseph worked as an intern at Naval Surface Warfare Center Corona Division in Norco, California. While there, he developed the Naval Calibration Common Operating Picture, an enterprise wide application for naval calibration logistics.
In the Summer of 2019, Joseph worked as an intern with the Cyber Capabilities Team in the USAA Cyber Threat Operations Center in San Antonio, Texas. While there, he developed custom IOC detections, SEIM plugins, and a full stack application to detect and track potential threat actors as they laterally move across the network.
Joseph primary interest is in the intersection of (legal) malware development, adversary simulation, threat hunting, and detections engineering. Joseph holds the following professional certifications: GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), GIAC Certified Reverse Engineering Malware (GREM), GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst (GCFA), Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate.
